Installed vacuum bung with extra port for EGR vacuum hose. Hooked up vacuum to EGR solenoid, and hooked vacuum output from solenoid which would normally feed the EGR valve instead to the EGR sensor, so that it receives changes in vacuum in sync with the solenoid in an effort to fool the ECU into believing the EGR is hooked up and functioning.

Installed EGR solenoid and sensor, plugged them into existing connectors pre-wired into the wiring harness. Mounting bracket studs were also already there, so installation was a breeze. I painted the mounting bracket to match the valve cover and radiator mounts.

Will need to test car to see if the CEL stays off or not with the new addition....

In case anyone was wondering, Canyon Lake is still there.

I took Max way out in the boonies for a test drive. The new rims & tires got a bit of a workout. :^D

So far, the idle weirdness hasn''t acted up. Max decelerates much better on throttle-down, and the RPMs fairly quickly dive for idle whenever you step on the clutch and off the gas. This was very handy in the winding mountain road out to the lake--lots of binary throttle action, i.e., on or off, and lots of great turns. :^D

SeaFoamed the intake and poured remaining 1/3 pint into gas tank. I ran a bit more than the prescribed 1/3 pint through the intake so that it would get 97000+ miles worth of carbon buildup and dust and whatnot out of the intake and cylinders.

Man, what a big cloud of smoke!!

Also replaced 10mm blue silicone PCV hose with the original black rubber hose, since when it got hot under the hood, the vacuum from the intake sucked it nearly flat.

Replaced charcoal vapor canister vacuum hose that goes to the throttle body. The previous owner's shade-tree mechanic had jerry-rigged something which looked pretty leaky. I used the proper size adapters for the vacuum line to go from 1/8" at the throttle body to 3/16" at the vacuum solenoid and from 3/16" to 3/8" at the canister, recycling the right-angle connector from the former PCV plastic line to make it all work.

Also cut the bottom trapezoidal chunk off the air cleaner box. Seems to have a bit better throttle response. Sounds really good now, with nice, throaty resonances at 1500 RPM, 3000 RPM, and 4500 RPM when getting on the gas a bit. Max sounded positively ferocious coming out of the tight jug-handle at the 60 - 101 stack at 50 - 55 in third gear.... :^)

The recently-snugged up intake manifold nuts have added a fair amount of torque and power. Going up hills that previously, I couldn't maintain 65 MPH in high gear, I was now able to accelerate from 60 to 70. Power off the line and accelerating through the gears is also improved. Idle is now much more normal, but still not perfect. It seems, though, that this was the bulk of the problem. Now to clean up the JY manifold and polish it all nice and pretty, so that the new intake gasket can be accompanied by a nice, shiny, polished manifold....

While attempting to leave, the ignition key mechanism failed, forcing me to detach the switch so that I could start the car with a screwdriver. The key still unlocks the steering column, but no longer can turn the electrical switch due to the little pot-metal tab breaking inside the ignition switch housing.

Looks like a fun repair.... :^P

Cleaned the IAC (Idle Air Controller) and throttle body. Runs much smoother now, and settles right down to a normal idle instead of sticking at 1500RPM and slooooowwwwwwly dropping to the normal 800 or so. Pulls harder in mid-RPM acceleration, too.
